Robert Kipniss, 1931-
Born in New York City, Robert Kipniss studied at that cityÕs famed Art Students League before earning his MasterÕs Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Iowa in 1954. His works are characterized by a simple setting. Often the image is of a house and a few hills in an untouched silence. His colors are subdued and mild.
He has exhibited extensively in the United States and abroad with numerous one-person shows, including Museo de Arte Moderno La Tertulia, Colombia; ClossonÕs Art Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio; Szoke Gallery, New York City, and ICA in Tokyo, Japan. Kipniss has received awards from the Society of American Graphic Artists (1979); the National Academy of Design, (1976); and a prize in lithography from the Boston Printmakers. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1980.
His works can be found in the permanent collections at: the Chicago Art Institute; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Whitney Museum of Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; New York Public Library; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Detroit Art Institute; Yale University Museum; National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institute; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; New Orleans Museum of Art; The British Museum, London; and in many other important museum collections throughout the United States, United Kingdom and South America.
